History of the Natal Carbineers, with details of their participation in the Anglo-Zulu War, Anglo-Boer War, First World War in Namibia, Abyssinian Campaign, North African campaign and march into Italy during the Second World War.  A book which reflects the history of European volunteer forces in Natal over nearly one hundred years. But largely concerned with WWII, frontispiece is of Sergeant Quentin Smythe, first South African VC of the Second World War. Author was Professor of History and Political Science at the University of Natal.
