The fearsome Tiger Tank was first developed for Hitler's birthday in 1942 as a prototype, and first encountered by the Western Allies in Tunisia in dramatic fashion: rounds from a 75 mm shell, fired from just fifty meters away, bounced of the side of this monster weapon. Despite being unwieldy in size, and with inherent design flaws, the Tiger tank quickly earned itself a reputation for invincibility through Tunisia, Leningrad, and Kursk. This book follows the fortunes of this fearsome weapon in battle, and is the first to tell the story from development, through testing and battlefield performance until they literally ran out of oil at the Battle of the Bulge. With over 100 photographs, the book brings to life the combat service of the German army's independent Tiger Tank companies, and all versions of the tank - Mark I, Mark II, King Tiger Tank. Also included are technical descriptions of it's main and secondary armament, tables of tactical organization, and engine and drive train specifications.
